Silicone has a phlegmatic quality, which for me serves as something of a starting point in itself. It is runny and difficult to work with in all its stickiness, and once it hardens it still retains some of that character. It’s an ambiguous material, with a tangible solidity yet at the same time this ephemeral and slightly repulsive texture.
