Twisted Realities
Österbottens Museum, Vasa Finland
27Oktober2023 - 31Mars 2024
The exhibition includes several sets of works where the artist deals with their ostensible naturalistic illusions as reflections of reality and comments on them with new pieces made for this exhibition. When we see a giant water lily spreading out as an installation, what exactly are we looking at? The artist has always been interested in the relationship between humans and nature, but its representation acquires an uncanny and ambiguous tension. He does not depict nature for nature’s sake, but instead, it functions as a surface for projecting the subconscious and emotions. Natural objects such as plants appear mistreated at the hands of humans and slightly off-kilter, their meanings having been tuned to a dreamlike form by the artist.

AMOX REX, HELSINKI
Art moves us, or not, in ways that we ourselves do not always quite understand, let alone knowing how to put them into words. "I feel, for now" is Amos Rex’s first exhibition of works from its own collections on this scale, and takes us through the art into emotions.
The more than a hundred artworks chosen for the exhibition carry us from isolation to empathy, from ecstasy to nostalgia.
WHO IS AN ANIMAL
HAM, HELSINKI
The exhibition draws attention to how artists strive even more to break the power structure between humans and other animals, and make visible what unites us. Its 80 works are grouped into themes that serve as points of discussion for various topics, such as how animals are depicted, their habitats, mistreatment, coexistence, and agency.
The exhibition is located in one of HAM´s grand arched halls and is primarily based on HAM’s art collection – property of all Helsinki residents. It features works by numerous artists
